Students in Brevard County, as well as across the country, are scrambling to file their Free Application for Financial Student Aid - or FAFSA applications - by the federal, state, and more importantly, particular college or university deadlines.
The FAFSA is an application for students who are attending (or anyone interested in attending for the upcoming school year) for financial aid in order to help pay for tuition, books, living expenses, and more.
The FAFSA must be completed each year for each upcoming school year a student is planning on attending school. The Federal FAFSA deadline for the 2012-2013 school year (between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013) is June 30, 2013. Any corrections to the FAFSA must be completed by September 21, 2013.
Each state has a different FAFSA deadline, however; Florida's FAFSA applications for the 2012-2013 school year must be processed by May 15, 2012.
Brevard County students attending school at any of the Brevard Community College Campuses (or online) must fill out their FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year by April 15, 2012. BCC recommends waiting until BCC students (or their parents) have filed their taxes before completing the online FAFSA for 2012-2013 in order to use the new IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
Different schools may have different FAFSA deadlines as well to apply for Free Federal Financial Aid, so be sure to check with your school.
The FAFSA can be completed online, or a PDF application can be printed out and mailed. Students will need their Social Security number, Driver's License number, tax information from the following year (or parent's tax information if they are applying for financial aid for their student), bank account information, and any other information about investments, mortgages, etc.
Brevard County students and other Florida students can use the Florida FACTS website to find out information about higher education in Florida, including all the information you need to file the FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year.
If you are a student in Brevard County attending school during the 2012-2013 school year, or are considering attending school in the upcoming school year, then be sure to fill our your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Florida's FAFSA deadline (April 15, 2012) as well as your school's deadline!
